Yellow spots on display

I just noticed these maybe a week ago and was wondering if anyone else has them.

They show up really well on a white background but they’ve gotten so bad that I just started noticing them on any color.

It’s not super visible in the photos but a bright spot can be seen in the center of the left corner which is something putting pressure on the display from behind. I know this because when I close my lid slowly the white spot disappears. The spot also corresponds to the plastic guides for the antenna cable found in the top cover.

If the display sits at more than an 80 degree angle from the keyboard there will be pressure on the display enough to cause these marks.

If I apply pressure with a finger to the yellow mark it temporarily becomes normal again. It also completely goes away when the laptop is closed for a while, only to return shortly after its been opened again.

I’m fairly certain it can’t be fixed as I’ve tried reseating all the screws that hold the display assembly together to various amounts of tension. It didn’t make it any better

I’m torn on whether or not to submit another ticket to support after all the problems I’ve had with them and the machine. I may just try to ignore it unless it gets worse. (It’s already really annoying though.)

I think you might be right XD

Update:

I noticed that it’s starting to spread to the middle and edges of the screen as well. Not just the bottom corners.

I turned up the saturation of the photo so it can be better seen on camera.

The spots are much more obvious in person.

I’m starting to suspect it’s caused by the pressure of my hand while drawing or just where ever there happens to be tension on the display. When the display is gently bent (as it would be while drawing or note taking) it distorts the colors and turns yellow.

My theory is that extended use with a stylus on a flat surface will cause the screen to essentially decay over time due to all the pressure. The other 12 in my house does not have these issues but it’s not used every day for drawing either.

This looks concerning, how hard are you pressing?

I press as hard as I need to lay down light lines in the beginning and a bit harder when I ink pieces to get thicker lines. So about as hard as you would press to get a thick bold line with a graphite pencil, or as hard as you would press to erase that same line.

In very precise terms: During inking I use 70%-85% of my stylus pressure sensitivity. I tested this with Krita by opening the tablet tester under tablet settings.

The thing that I find concerning is that simply resting my hand on the display and writing lightly results in the display bending. This is because there’s nothing to support it in the middle between the two rubber feet on either side.

I think the reason I have these yellow marks is because the display is marketed but not necessarily designed for frequent drawing or writing sessions, and I’m drawing on it more than most people would, without a doubt.

I wonder if it’s some sort of internal de-lamination from the pressure or something, given the rapid spreading after initial signs. Although that really shouldn’t be a thing, it’s meant to be drawn and written on, it needs to be able to support the weight of your hand using the stylus and its pressure sensitive capabilities (which you said isn’t even maxing it out, so it’s clearly within what it should be able to handle).

Do contact support about this, I’m really curious if they give any reason for this. If nothing else, you’ll get a new display most likely.

…yeah.

Thanks! I just sent support an email. I’ll report back if I hear from them.

I’m pretty convinced it has something to do with drawing on it over time since my other 12 doesn’t have this at all. Though a few months of drawing isn’t long to turn yellow >:[

In the meantime I put a drawing glove under the display to keep it from bending while I draw.

I’m starting to think I just use mine most and I end up finding all the durability issues first lol.

Yeah I can see that, but that poses the problem that these issues are more or less unavoidable, but will only affect most people after their warranty period, which is a rather unpleasant thought.

I can only hope that if this does turn out as another wide-spread issue Framework will offer an extended warranty program for it (and also for the cracking imo).

Guess we have to wait and see if others turn up with this issue in time or if you do indeed just have horrid luck.

I certainly hope its just me. It’s getting worse now and these spots are developing all over the display and getting more visible. :[

Me noticing the parallels between this thread and the cracking thread:

Hey… none of that twilight zone stuff. Your issue here is odd enough.

I know you know what I’m gonna say, but I’ll say it anyway. Create a support ticket and let me know when you have. I’ll grab it and get you a replacement display sent out so we can grab yours for testing.

Edit: I missed the post where you said you had contacted already. I’m going to go pull it.

We appreciate you, Eagle <3

Happy to send it back for testing!

Thanks. Keep it with you for the time being. The engineers may want to grab it.

warranty it

I got a new display in from Framework and it’s completely clear of any yellow spots.
Which has made me realize that this has been a problem longer than I thought. I thought tiny yellow spots were normal and just because the display was kinda bad. Nope, This one is perfect.

I’ve had yellow spots on my display for a while now but I only posted about it when it became distracting. Gonna keep a close eye on this display and see what happens after I’ve been drawing on it for a while.

Time to buy my 3rd screen protector from via screens lol.

Hey @Nathan_Alan_Hansen Glad to hear it’s completely clear. Please take note of things on your hands as well, since you said you use it to draw quite a bit. Like lotions, etc. That may be helpful info in the future if it happens again (not saying this was the cause, in any way).

Of course, as always, give me a shout if you have troubles.
