5070 rear usb C NV failsafe

been testing my my 5070 and only one oddity has pop up. I have a generic portable usb monitor that keep going into NV Failsafe while connected to the 5070 Dgpu usb plug. when plugged into the side port it operate normally. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Os- Windows,

AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS/ 5070

After the lastest bios updates for the 5070, I’ve noticed my usbc ports don’t always output enough power to run a portable monitor on their own anymore. I used to be able to run an Asus proart stylus display with one thunderbolt cable to the side ports. Now I need an additional cable for dedicated power or it flickers constantly and loses power regardless of which port.

If your display has a second input for adding power, try plugging that too and seeing if it still errors out

i dont think that is the issue. the portable monitor is powered by a separate battery/ a backup battery. when i get home i will try to connect it to another display device and give an update.

I have been having a similar issue with the 7700s, though as it works for 20-30 minutes at a time in-between I thought it was a hardware fault.

interesting before upgrading i had a 7700s and it worked fine every time.

Maybe it is hardware then, I haven’t taken the card apart to see if they’re is any damage, since it works fine with the side ports.

So continuing my evaluation with support. redoing the drivers didnt solve the problem. But i found that for some odd reason putting a usb C expansion port in between gpu and monitor does. Im going to buy a second portable monitor and see if the issue can be reproduced.
