7700S 1st Gen Troubleshooting

Hello Framework folks!

I recently was lucky enough to acquire a mystery box! I understand all of these parts come with no warranty and were likely returned for a reason, just trying to make the most of them.

I got a 7840HS mainboard that aside from being a little finicky posting from time to time seems to work quite well! AMD Radeon 780M video card benchmark result - AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS,Framework FRANMZCP07

I also scored the 7700S GPU Expansion Module. I had to order an interposer but is there a step I’m missing besides screwing them together? I also ordered the official 180W PSU, which I’m using here. No fans, not recognized in the BIOS, nada. Anything I can do to troubleshoot this? I’m interested in exploring the board with a multimeter if I can learn something. I also haven’t counted out this is potentially an issue with the mainboard here. I don’t have another mainboard to test with.

Hi,

You need the switch next to the interposer pushed down to tell the motherboard that the expansion bay is present. Just use a piece of tape to hold it pressed. That’s what I did with my motherboard and GPU I got from a mystery box, and it worked.

Hope that helps.

I had no idea! Thanks for the tip. I get different behavior now. What’s your bios set to for standalone operation and standalone detection?
