Ordered a 5070 received a 7700S? WTH

Pre-ordered the 5070 for my FW16 with the 7700S. Today my GPU was delivered and imagine my surprise when I open the box to see a 7700S in a 5070 box. This has to be a joke…. Anyone else have this happen to them or im i the only unlucky one?

That’s a yikes. I assume you put in a support ticket?

No, not just you

Same thing happened to me. Still going to install and just hope it was mislabeled.

My “old” Radeon module is above.

Yeah I have a support ticket in.

It’s mislabeled but the right GPU. There are a couple of other reports of the same thing in the forums. If you compare the black metal retainer holding the GPU board to pictures of the Radeon module, you can see what’s what.

I hope they were just labeled wrong but the included imposer doesn’t work with the GPU so I’m Thinking probably slim chance.

Make sure the interposer is facing the correct direction. There are 4 ways to orient a square, but only one of those is correct for the interposer. It can also be tricky to get it to work with the mounting screws on the chassis unless you’ve done it a lot.

Yeah I was gonna say there are only two interposers so far and the interposer in the picture is the right one (i.e. it’s the graphics module interposer, not the expansion bay interposer). Your advice is sound!

You have the right module actually. I had the same thing, they’ve used the same stickers on both modules it seem. Look at the layout of the heatsink and RAM plates, I installed mine and verified that’s a 5070 (top module in photo).

I’m also pretty sure the interposer is interchangable. I reused my original from my 7700S, and the 5070 appears to be running fine. Like the post above, make sure you’ve faced it the right way. There should be really only one way to place it per the support brackets included, watch the install video carefully if you haven’t.

@Eagle FYI FM Team, might want to take a look and pin a post or something. If it’s happened at least 3 times on 5070 orders specifically, I’d hazard a guess that this wrong sticker event happened to a good chunk of the 5070 shipments…

Phew! Mine is a 5070 just mislabeled

For those running into issues with the interposer: Make sure to update your BIOS in addition to installing the card.

The card did not show up in either Windows or Linux until I updated my BIOS.

Hi! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Our internal teams have been alerted and will investigate.

Count me as another who received a GPU with a 7700 sticker. I went ahead and swapped it in and I’m updating drivers. It just installed the NVIDIA drivers and says an NVIDIA graphics module is present. I think somebody at Framework just has a warped sense of humor.

Same! Mine was a 5070 as well. I couldn’t get the new interposer to work so i used the old one and it seems to be working fine. Man, Framework you had me going there for a bit! Thanks everyone for jumping in and helping figure this all out!

On a unrelated note, I’m sad that the fan sound profile has seen absolutely no improvement, and even looking at it physically I can’t see what they mean by “updated fans and shell to improve thermals and acoustics” - looks like false marketing.

Gonna be a collector’s item

Having the same problem, here is my 5070. Almost filed a return but figured id plug it in and see if it was really an AMD card. I wonder what nvidia and jensen thinks of thousands of GPUs shipping labeled as AMD cards.

This is a limited edition, I want the 5070 with the mislabelled sticker too!

How do you even make a mistake like this, it’s crazy. Where is the quality control.

I checked those ‘fan improvements’ and they are barely noticable at all, was expecting the fans to be a improvement. The community made mods covering some of the back vents still do a better job.

Same story over here. New 5070 incorrectly labeled as a 7700s.

Also curious if anyone else’s looks like this with what appears to be an over tightened or misaligned screw that’s kind of bent/indented this part?

Other than that, seems to be working fine. Haven’t had a chance to game or edit videos with it yet but a quick time spy run with my 7840hs:

7700s: 10,000

5070: 12,370

Update: have had a chance to play a bit of Overwatch 2 and BF6. Early days of course, but initial feelings are that the numbers are higher but it’s still not a great gaming experience. Overwatch actually felt pretty damn good and a nice improvement over the 7700s, but after two rounds, the GPU wattage throttled to half. I’m still on the 180w power adapter, so I’m guessing the 240w may alleviate that.
