Me too, but I found this unofficial guide on iFixit for changing the thermal pad on the GPU. I was going to follow that one

Why? Do they deform/break at very high or very low temperatures or something?
Nah. I used one to do the liquid metal → PTM swap, then later I did the copper shim mod and accidentally destroyed one of them in the process, and I like having an extra around incase I want to mess with it more.
