Batch 1 - FW16 AMD-AI-300 - Guild

The laptop feels great! It feels a good bit sturdier than the first gen 16 (which I bought for my friend as gift) in terms of the keyboard and display flex. One issue I have is that there a stripped standoff for the M.2 slot on my unit, but support is working with me to resolve it  Overall happy with everything!

Just got my new mainboard AI 370 this evening and did a quick swap. Was super simple and didn’t run into any problems thank goodness. Honestly the most hassle free experience I’ve had switching out a board on a machine. First go on Cinebench 23 and got a 19103 for multi core. From everything I’ve read/heard, the PTM is supposed to get better over time from a review I saw from LTT out of Honeywell’s spec documentation. So I’m certainly looking forward to that.

Edit: Also side note, was fully expecting to have to get a new windows license as the previous board I had was a pre-built with an OEM license. From what I’ve been researching, OEM sticks with the board and is not swappable. Allegedly you needed to get a new license unless you had a retail version. However, I checked my registration and it still says active. Any idea what that’s about? Did I get lucky and FW slapped another license on there for Win11 Pro?

if the batch 1 is just being delivered and was supposed to arrive in November when the batch 7 will arrive? January?

I’m curious if FM actually uses OEM licenses at all, since they offer the option of DIY builds or parts builds where you furnish your own license if needed. If they just use standard windows keys, I think those will actually survive a few system component swaps since windows assumes a desktop build normally.

Good question. When I ran CMD on my old board and referenced the install key, based on what I could find online, it said that mine was indeed an OEM license. And my Microsoft account does not show a linked license either if mine was indeed a retail version. I don’t know I’m not super versed on windows product keys. Was just surprised with this new mainboard stand alone I got I am still registered because everything I read says the license is attached to the board. Meaning since the old board got removed, it shouldn’t have one anymore.

I got the new mainboard over the weekend and did the swap last night. No drama and instruction steps worked fine. I used the opportunity to swap the wifi module and add the m.2 expansion board as well. Good job FW!

For those of you unlucky enough to order without RAM (like me), what RAM are you using? I tried a set of Kingston KF556S40IBK2-32 with my HX 370, but it wouldn’t boot.

I’m running two sticks of ADATA AD5S560032G.

hey all, just wondering if anyone who has received the ai 300 board has tried silicon power 5600 Mhz CL 46 ram in it.

How long did you wait? The ram training can take a while

I got the email last month saying my Batch 1 orders for the new 370 and 5070 would be going out in 3 to 18 days. I’ve had the 5070 now for a couple of weeks, but still have nothing about charging my card for the 370.

That’s… disconcerting. I’m curious, did your order include an SSD or RAM? Had you edited your order recently before you got the email, or since then?

I’ve started a thread where we can track the shipment of batches as a community, since Framework hasn’t been giving us any information. Please post even if you’ve already received your laptop!

No, no RAM or SSD. I’m a FW16 Gen 1 owner, so I’m just upgrading parts. The only change was to my payment method. The alert email I received instructed to make changes before a certain date, so I did. There was no problem with shipment of the 5070. Just still waiting for notice that I’ve been charged for the 370.

I got mine 5070 and ran some benchmarks ~80% increase:

+----------------+----------+----------+----------+
| Model | RX 7700S | RTX 5070 | Increase |
+----------------+----------+----------+----------+
| phi3:3.8b | 67.35 | 118.15 | +75.43% |
| mistral:7b | 38.86 | 72.71 | +87.11% |
| llama3.1:8b | 36.76 | 67.83 | +84.52% |
| deepseek-r1:8b | 35.51 | 64.02 | +80.29% |
+----------------+----------+----------+----------+

P.S. I did not run CPU benchmarks, as ollama on Linux does not support NPU :sob:

Definitely waited long enough for memory training to complete. I got some G.SKILL Ripjaws F5-5600S4040A16GX2-RS that is working like a charm though.

re-tested with new RAM, small increase NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (notebook) video card benchmark result - AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370,Framework FRANMHCP09?
