Bios download link

Hi everyone,

We use several Framework laptops in our office and are currently facing an issue with BIOS updates not installing automatically. At the moment, we’ve partially worked around this by using a custom script, but it’s not an ideal solution.

It would be much more convenient if there were a way to reference or retrieve the latest BIOS update automatically. For now, we still have to manually install the BIOS update on each laptop, which takes quite a bit of time when managing multiple devices.

If anyone has suggestions, tools, or ideas to simplify or automate this process, I’d really appreciate hearing about them.

Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

Linux Firmware Update Manager is the best automated way, but maybe you’ve not dropped Windows for Linux just yet. Running the EFI installer from a USB stick would be my second choice, but maybe you’ve got other tools to manage software installation across your fleet of hardware.

I looked into automating a workflow of download-and-install – the filenames on the CDN don’t follow a common pattern and so each time there’s a thread announcing the beta or promoting a beta to full release, there’s a link to the Windows installer and the EFI installer script. Maybe I’ll talk to Claude tomorrow and spec out a .ps (powershell, not postscript) that has a manifest of devices, installers and file integrity hashes for this, but I don’t know EDM (Enterprise Device Management, not Electronic Dance Music) tools to run the updates from Group Policy or WSUS updaters.
