Hey everyone,
I was setting up my framework desktop and my son pulled it off the table. It fell about 3 feet to the hardwood and landed on a corner. All in all, it seems in fine shape, but the case has a couple little bends in some of the sheet metal. The side panel lost some plastic clips, so I already bought and received a new panel.
I’ve tried to attach a couple photos showing the slight bend.
I think I can bend this back pretty easily, but what’s the best way to get this back panel off without taking the ENTIRE thing apart?
I appreciate any insight!
Hi @Eric_Hulse , did you mange to sort this out? I’ve had a lot of experience dismantling and re-assembling my desktop as I’m evaluating a new custom power supply. There is a handy how to guide on the webpage. It can be stripped to nothing using only the supplied double ended screwdriver. Unfortunately if you require to replace any parts of your case because they are too damaged/bent to straighten then you will have to purchase a full new case. Framework won’t sell you just the panels you require. I learned this the hard way because I modded the rear panel of my case to make the PSU fit but later realised that if I had put it in upside down I wouldn’t have needed to take a Dremel to the back panel. I contacted support but was told I would need to purchase a full case, the rear panel wasn’t available separately. This was a bit disappointing seeing as Framework support the right to repair and to reuse and recycle, but they were only too happy to have me purchase a full new case just to get a rear panel.
If you are interested or need to replace parts on your case, I’m looking to sell a full new case but with a modded rear panel. Looking at your pictures, I think your rear panel could be straightened easily. As for the impact to the top corner, I don’t know how distorted the chassis is underneath the top and back panels. If this sounds like a solution to your problem, I would be able to sell it to you with the modded rear panel (I’ve utilised the new rear panel for my setup) for a reasonable price with shipping. Have a look at my thread for pictures of the rear panel modifications, but I think your rear panel could be straightened. Good luck
Thanks for the input, I appreciate the guidance. I’ve got some downtime next week and I’ll tackle this. I guess I’ll just get a screwdriver and take off the bits I need haha.
I agree it would be great if I could buy the individual panels, that’s a bummer. I think overall my chassis is fine, and the thin panels are the only ones with slight warping.
Good luck with your power supply journey!
