Charging from desk sockets

One Issue I’m having is that while my laptop charges just fine at home, it doesn’t charge from the desk sockets they have in offices. I’m not quite sure what the difference is. I’ve had the same issue in a couple of different offices. Is there anything I can do?

  • Which OS? Fedora 41
  • Which Framework product? Framework 13 Intel 13th gen

Is this a USB port or Wall Plug built into the desk??

it’s a wall plug built into the desk, the UK 3 pin style ones

That’s odd…do other things get power from them? I was hoping it was a problem with a usb port not supporting sub pd 3.0…but wall plugs are dead simple.

yeah I run two laptops for work, the other one (an HP windows machine) works fine and the one I had until recently (lenovo carbon X1) was also fine

Are you using the same USB-C power supply in your outlet at home and the desk-mounted outlet at work? If both outlets are wired correctly, there should be no difference whatsoever.

I would suggest getting the desk sockets PAT tested. I can’t think of any reason one device would work and the other not, unless there is some sort of electrical fault.
