DaVinci Resolve Doesn't See GPU

I’m running a Framework 16 Ryzen™ 9 7940HS with a Radeon™ RX 7700S with Pop OS. Resolve doesn’t see my GPU and it isn’t in the configuration list; Black Magic won’t respond unless I buy Studio so I’m seeing if anyone here has dealt with this?

If it’s hopeless I’m open to suggestions of the most professional video editor I can find on the Pop Shop.

By default, most distros use Clover for OpenCL, which can’t be used by Resolve. Fortunately, a lot of distros package RustICL (which is Resolve compatible), so it’s a matter of setting the correct env variables to force Resolve to use RustICL instead of Clover. Some distros also package the ROCm OpenCL package, which also works for Resolve.

Alternately, using a flatpak version of Resolve mostly automates the above for you:

Thank you for the response, but so much of this went over my head. I guess I’ll just have to find something on the Pop Shop that’ll hopefully work.

Kdenlive is a great video editor

Thanks, that’s what I’m going with for now. I’m just neurotic about it because even though I don’t do a lot of home editing, I’ve always liked using professional stuff so I’m keeping up to speed for work; but I use different ones at different jobs so I’m probably fine.

Hey @Crystalyne - can you explain this more in detail and let us know if this is still the case in 2025? I would love to know if this is also a solution for older cards (such as the R9 380 and other older AMD models so they would work through RustiCL) No playback with AMD GPUs · Issue #74 · zelikos/davincibox · GitHub
