Hello everyone. I have a question for the community and indeed for Framework itself. It’s about my search for a docking station with which I can also supply my Framework 16 including Radeon graphics card with sufficient power via USB-C, i.e. a docking station that also functions as a power supply replacement.
I have found what I was looking for from a few manufacturers, but with more than 90W the respective docking stations only supply the manufacturer’s own devices (and in some cases not even all, but only compatible devices).
So now comes the exciting question: when will Framework come up with such a docking station?
Or are there possibly docking stations from other manufacturers that also come with 180W PD for the Framework 16? Then an overview would be interesting.
I got my FW16 a couple of weeks ago, FW sent me a survey about my experience and one of the questions included accessories that I would be interested in and a docking station was one of them. I hope that there is a dock that takes the modules on the horizon.
As for other manufacturers, there are others that are probably compatible and will deliver 180W
edit: nm - its called a 180W but it only delivers 130W
Dell combines two USB-C PD connections for their notebooks, Framework can only accept power on one port. So the Dell WD19 docking station works just fine, but the dock supplies only approx. 20V and 3.5A, limiting power to approx 70W (at least that’s what my FW16 without dGPU takes during a cinebench23 run). Without the dGPU, that’s all the notebook needs, so for me it’s enough.
That’s the problem. If you take Dell, they write something about “180W PD for charging the connected device” on their own Amazon Marketplace. But on their own homepage, in the same article, they write “Power supply with 180W, 130W PD for compatible DELL devices, 90W PD for other devices”. So for whatever reason no manufacturer can get this right, but having to search for something so specific really makes it impossible
FYI: I’ve done some research a month or two ago on the topic of docking stations and power delivery myself (mainly going through the confirmed working docking station threads in this forum and checking specs). My findings were, that max. power delivery you can get by a docking station for a FW16 is 100W. I bought a ICY BOX IB-DK2880-C41 (USB4, attached to a USB3 slot of the FW). For me (only occasionally maxing out my FW16 + dGPU while editing/exporting photos) 100W seem to be enough.

Yes (normally using the center left port). I’m using it with two Eizo monitors without any problems and with two Fujitsu monitors where once in a while one or the other monitor turns dark (turning it off and on again helps) – not sure what the root cause of the problem is. I’m using two HDMI cables and HDMI to DVI adapters.
A friend of mine is looking for a docking station that works with the FW16 and two monitors. Is this the case with the docking station you linked?
I got my work-provided docking station with two 27" 4K monitors (one EIZO, one NEC, both with DP) working on my FW16: plugged it in, installed packages (I just don’t remember which ones, it’s been a few months now), and it works. It’s the HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2.
Die Dockingstation basiert auf DisplayLink und ist mit Notebooks von HP, Apple®, Dell, Lenovo und weiteren Herstellern kompatibel.

As I said, I had to do a quick search, came across one or two packages, installed them, and that was it. Both 4K monitors, in addition to the laptop screen, were controlled cleanly and at full resolution. I just don’t remember which packages they were.
