Ethernet expansion card instability

I’ve been having repeated issues with my 2.5g ethernet expansion card being incredibly unreliable. The network connectivity repeatedly drops out with no way to recover except a reboot. Sometimes it’s good for a few hours, sometimes just a few minutes.

I’ve tried so many things. Disabling EEE, disabling several offloads, forcing it to 1g, disabling usb autosuspend, modprobe blacklists, systemd watchdogs, bouncing the nic when it detects a failure. And nothing works. I’m out of ideas at this point. Everything points to instability in the realtek chip/driver, but I haven’t been able to find a solution.

I’ve verified that it’s just network connectivity that goes down, the system keeps running but is completely unreachable over the network, inbound and outbound.

I’m using my old i5-1135g7 mainboard as a server, 16gb ram, 1tb SSD. Running Proxmox 9.1.4. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and have you found a solution? I’m about ready to just ditch this entirely and switch to a different platform where I can get an intel PCI-E nic instead.
