Fingerprint reader for Desktop?

Is anyone aware of options for fingerprint readers that will work with Linux? I have a Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader that I’m using with Windows currently, but I know that sensor isn’t supported under Linux at this point. Would like to buy something to use with my Desktop when it arrives.

I know that I can just type in my password, but fingerprint auth is really nice for things like password managers, etc.

YubiKey Bio Series should work.

I was looking at that… it doesn’t appear to be a real finger print reader. It might offer similar functionality, but won’t allow multiple users, etc.

Not exactly what you were asking about, but if you have or are willing to buy a webcam, you can use Howdy in Linux for a face-unlock or face login capability. I use Howdy and the fingerprint reader on my Framework 16 laptop with Pop!_OS 22.04, and both work well.

What do you mean its not real finger print reader? It clearly says “Frictionless across devices and platforms with fingerprint sensor.”
I was going to order it myself this week so curious what you meant?

My understanding is that it does all the matching on the device rather than sending information to the computer and the computer doing the matching. Maybe it doesn’t matter, but that is my understanding.

Hi, this post might be a bit old but you may want to check out this discussion over at Framework Laptop 12 (there are a few different links):

And here is it as an expansion card:

But I presume for the Desktop you might be happy with using a Chipsailing CS971 fingerprint reader out-of-the-box.
