Framework 12 Dula m.2 nvme SSD

Hi. I noticed there are 2 M.2 slots on framework12, i know that the other one is occupied by Wi-fi card but does it support m.2 Nvme SSD so that i can have two m.2 SSDs? Does the BIOS support it?

Hello,

The M.2 socket on the Framework 12 motherboard is E-key, which means there’s a physical notch in a certain position. B-key and M-key SSDs will not physically fit in an E-key M.2 socket.

Now, theoretically it is possible. E-key slots expose PCIe x1 (single-lane PCIe) (source: Wikipedia - M.2), which is technically capable of hosting an SSD. However, I am not aware of any E-keyed SSDs, so you would need an adapter (they are for sale), but it of course wouldn’t fit. Now, it’s very possible that this would work without explicit firmware support (it has worked on various other devices), but there are risks (e.g. signal integrity issues).

I’d love it if there were an E-key SSD though.
