Framework 12 Not Booting For First Time

I’ve seen one other post about a similar issue, but my laptop will not go into the BIOS after I’ve installed my RAM and SSD. It is a black screen and I do not see the boot up screen at all. It’s been going for over twenty minutes, and I’ve already tried resetting the RAM and SSD once. I already have a ticket in. Does anyone have anything I could try before I sit and wait for a response?

Just to clarify: were you replacing existing RAM and SSD with new ones, or is this the very first time you are installing these components in this laptop?

Thanks, first time installation for both the RAM and SSD, and this is a new barebones laptop. The RAM is a new Crucial 16 GB stick, and the SSD is a renewed 128 GB from Kingston. The links to the Amazon listings are bit unwieldy, otherwise I would include.

Okay, I would suggest removing the SSD and trying to boot the laptop with only the RAM installed; if the screen turns on and displays an error, the SSD might be faulty. Also, do any LEDs light up on the sides of the laptop? Finally, if possible, I would suggest trying to connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI.

Thank you. I tried removing the SSD and it still sat at a black screen. I tried connecting to a portable monitor via USB-C and that did not work either (display said. no signal was being sent). I also tried resetting the board, using the iFixit Guide online. After that, I watched the device as I powered it on. The LEDs flashed red/green/blue after about 90 seconds. However, the screen still does not show any display.

Okay, once the LEDs start flashing, make a note of the various colors and their sequence, then check the official Framework guide to understand what each one means. Here is the link to the guide—take a look at the table. Framework Laptop 13 Blink Code Diagnostic

Here is the link for the Framework 12 codes: https://knowledgebase.frame.work/framework-laptop-12-blink-code-diagnostic-HJI3zz_vlx

Sorry, I accidentally sent the link for the Framework 13.

Maybe record the blinks with a phone so it can be played back. Pay attention to the 12th blink. That is the one for the display initialization pass/fail.

There have been rare issues where the internal connector was not seated properly or came loose in shipping to clients.

Maybe try disconnecting and reconnecting the cables (starting at the main board side then see if it fixes it) and then on the back of the display. If a ticket has not been started with support go ahead and make one so they know about the issue. Leave the SSD out for the time being until the display issue is fixed. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks everyone, the 11th LED blink flashed red, which I learned means the RAM might have issues. I looked more closely at my RAM stick and there is clear visible damage that I missed when I installed it initially. Thankfully, I can return the stick for a refund. It’s unfortunate, especially given how expensive it was.

Again, thank you to everyone that replied.
