Framework 13 Intel 12th Gen DIY Windows 11 Drivers not installing

Has anybody had any issues with installing the unified driver bundle found here Framework Laptop BIOS and Driver Releases (12th Gen Intel® Core™) on the Framework 13 Intel 12th Gen core i7 1260p with Windows 11 Pro? When I try and install them it extracts, then opens a command prompt window, I press a key and it just instantly closes, doesn’t install anything. Rebooting doesn’t change anything. The touchpad is barely functional, I can point and click. No gestures, no right click. This trackpad works perfectly in fedora and has done in various other linux distros I’ve used on this machine since getting it. This is the first time I’ve ever installed Windows on this laptop as I don’t normally touch that operating system unless I have to. All the support docs either say to check the cable (I already know it’s working because it works fine on linux) or check to see if the i2c device in device manager is disabled, it isn’t, however it shows up as a ps/2 device in there. I tried disabling ps/2 emulation from the bios but that makes the trackpad stop working entirely in windows so I don’t think it’s that. I have managed to get the operating system to boot so it’s not the issue where the drivers don’t load during the install, I’ve managed to get passed that with a plug in mouse, however I want to be able to use the laptop as a laptop by itself without a mouse so this is not an option.

  • Which OS (Operating System)? Windows 11 Pro latest release

  • Which Framework product? Framework Laptop 13 intel gen core i7 1260p

The following is not a solution but rather a quick and dirty workaround worth to try:

The driver bundle exe can be opened as an archive (with, e.g., 7zip, peazip, etc – or maybe just rename the extension exe to zip and use Windows Explorer). You’ll then find a “Intel_Serial IO…” directory containing the touchpad driver installer “SetupSerialIO.exe”. If you extract that directory it should be possible to just run the installer (as administrator) to get the touchpad driver installed.
