Framework 13 Pro Screen Color Accuracy

Is that new Framework Laptop 13 Pro screen only 100% sRGB? Would have loved to see it 100% DCI-P3 as someone who is getting into photography

I’m going to sound like a grognard, but if you’re ‘getting into’ photography, you don’t even need full SRGB coverage yet, let alone DCI.

You will sleep better once you realise that of 10 people looking at your photos, three are using crappy TN screens, two are on their phones with turbo vivid profiles, four have turned on the orange night filter and never turned it off, and the last person is you with your 1000% accurate display

I do get that, and I am well aware of it. The thing though is that if you’re going to say you’re trying to make the “Linux MacBook Pro”, it’s fair to question your shortcomings compared to the thing you’re calling yourself. The MacBook Pro has had DCI-P3 displays since 2016, so this is an area they’re falling short of what they say they’re trying to do :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

You might have got a different answer if you asked that to begin with and not that you “need” it for getting into photography.

I do hope they fixed the pixel response time which was an issue with the previous screens though. Colors were for my eyes already good enough on the matte original screen (as long as you didn’t turn on the amd deep-fry my screen power-saving mode).

Didn’t say I needed it, I said I would have liked to see it

I’m one of those nerds who appreciates an accurate display. It would be cool to get a 100% DCI display. Framework said they decided to stick with 100%sRGB and push for maximum efficiency instead. I can see their reasoning. There are probably trade-offs in terms of price to performance/features when they were spec’ing out the display. I do appreciate that the displays will have per-panel calibration. So the color accuracy should at least be good within the sRGB limitations.
