EDIT: Turned out the chipset driver was not installed correctly from the original framework bundle in my case, i needed to install the official amd driver set a few times so it worked (got multiple black screens and windows broke a few times) very weird behavior.
But the charging is still not working!
Hi all, I am trying to get my Gigabyte Aorus eGPU with the GTX 1070 working on my Framework 13.
Initially, I wanted to get it running on my Pop!_OS system, but it didn’t go smoothly. I installed the NVIDIA drivers, and the GPU was recognized and showed up in the “nvidia-smi” command. However, when I plugged in an external monitor to the GPU, the monitor wouldn’t turn on. After reinstalling the drivers several times and tweaking some system parameters, I decided to give up.
So, I installed Windows on my second SSD to try there. After installing the NVIDIA drivers and restarting a few times, nothing is working now. Not even the USB ports are functioning, and the GPU isn’t working at all.
Another issue I’ve encountered on both systems is that the laptop won’t charge via USB-C from the eGPU. I have a second laptop (unfortunately without Thunderbolt, but with USB-C), and charging works fine with that one.
I’ve plugged the USB-C cable into the rear-left USB-C port on the Framework, which should be USB4, correct?
Does anyone have any idea what might be missing for this to work? My main goal right now is to get this setup working on Windows, but any ideas for fixing it on Linux would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
