Framework 16 cop lights but won't boot

Opened a support request but figured I’d post here as well in case anyone has any thoughts. I’ve installed a new mainboard (Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370) in my Framework 16" after the previous mainboard died and it won’t start up, the lights just flashing red and blue (or blank if the full input set is installed). I’ve tested with everything disconnected and the usual memory debugging (letting it train with a single stick, or both sticks) and no love. It will occasionally go through the boot lights and the 12 POST LEDs are all green but after the POST sequence it goes back to blue and red (or nothing) and still won’t come on; no display or external display and I’ve verified it’s not coming up headless. Is this likely to be a memory issue or is there anything else I should look at?

Edit: Got the POST codes and it’s C5 so looks like it is a memory issue.

Take a close look at the receiving pins on the mainboard to make sure they are all aligned. Memory does not always go bad between board upgrades.

Though apparently there was one case of a 13 board where the memory apparently shorted the board out and subsequent replacement boards met the same fate.

Not that there are a lot of spare DDR5 memory modules lying around people’s houses but maybe try a different stick not used on this board and see if the same results happen.

The cop lights reference had me giggling a little. :police_car: :police_officer: Pull over further man! He can’t officer he is already pulled over!

What make, model of ram chip?
What cpu was on the old mainboard vs new mainboard?

So, the old board was a 7940HS so the memory should be compatible (2x32GB DDR5-5600), but it got fried by Pretty Bad water damage which is why I was thinking the memory might have gotten hit in the first place. I tested out the other components and they seem okay but I don’t have any useful SO-DIMMs kicking around to test the RAM.

Well, you did not quite answer my question.
There are reports that kingston ram, that worked in the 7040 series, will not work in the AI 300 series.
So, if you have kingston ram, that might explain your problem.
But you are also right. If water got in and shorted a supply rail to a data pin on the ram, it would probably destroy the ram.

The RAM I had was Framework-badged, supposed to be the regular stuff that works.

In any event, I got a stick of Kingston RAM and it came right up, so yeah, my old DIMMs are stuffed.
