Framework 16 does not boot after BIOS update

Hello, I have just updated the FW16 BIOS and it does not POST, it is stuck on a black screen. The fans would spin up occasionally.

What I did: fwupmgr get-updates and update (latest BIOS firmware)

I followed the process with the battery installed and connected to the AC power adapter.

The update took a few minutes (I was several versions behind) and completed with a green message “Update Complete!!!”.

Then the screen turned black.

I tried force powering it off and on again, the display remains black.

I can control the keyboard backlight so I guess it is not completely bricked yet?

Hi, I would recommend trying to wait 15 minutes, even if the screen remains black. Additionally, I would ask you to try connecting an external monitor to the laptop to see if it shows any signs of life. In any case, I recommend you contact Framework support.

Thanks!

It powered off itself after about 15 minutes.

I have powered it back on, fans are still spinning, it’s been over 15 minutes. I will leave it on for a few hours.

I plugged an external display, it had no signal.

There’s no need to leave it powered on for hours, that was only a quick test to see if it was simply going through memory training. At this point, I’d personally recommend waiting for direct guidance from Framework support or from other community users. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help, and best of luck!

Power off, disconnect anything connected to your ports (except the charger) and try booting once more.

Then, if you haven’t already, contact support:
