I noticed Framework has a little handwritten note on the 12 web page about the stylus. It looks like it was written using the Framework 12 itself. (Though I could totally be wrong about this.)
I decided to do a little comparison between the note and my Huion Kamvas 16 (2021)
I have been using my Huion to make art professionally for the last 4 years, it does have wobble, but I find it more than usable for drawing and painting. It’s decently accurate, though not perfect, and it has a good amount of wobble. (Especially with line stabilization off!)
I’ve used many different EMR tablets and many of them were outright horrible. (Huion GT 220 V2 and XP pen Artist 16 to name a few.)
I think based on my little test and the fact that MPP and USI are both reasonably accurate to my knowledge, The 12 should be more than enough for drawing.
All of my staight lines were drawn diagonally and slowly, I rotated them for a more clear comparason.
Edit: I’m using a framework laptop 13 with krita for this test.
I suspect that wobbly lines are present when drawing unfortunately. It is noticable on this illustration
I do not have any wobbliness when drawing in Blender with wacom (13 one touch). I wonder if using a different pen will mitigate the wobbliness on the Framework 12.
I have no doubt that there will be some amount of line wobble. For me, it just seems to be a non issue while drawing unless I completely turn line smoothing off while I’m inking.
I have seen people get better lines out of different USI and MPP pens, such as the Penoval USI pens and the Lenovo precision pen 2(MPP 2.0), so I’m hoping that would improve the lines if Framework makes a bad pen.
At this point I’m slightly more worried about accuracy because I think that affects the drawing experience substantially more than a bit of line wobble. We don’t have any demonstrations of accuracy from the framework stylus but I’m assuming it will be as accurate as any other USI or MPP pen, which is to say: very accurate indeed.
It’s a bit difficult to gauge really. There are too many variables like how good is the person creating the marketing material at writing script digitally etc.
I think with all graphics tablets, slow line drawings are at the mercy of wobble, no matter the quality. Some of that will be your hand, maybe some the technology, which is why when wanting smooth straight lines, I flick instead of trying to draw it slowly. I guess it’s also why lining on vector layers is a thing as you can simplify/smooth out a line easier post drawing.
The team member who made that illustration unfortunately didn’t actually have a Framework Laptop 12 with stylus, so that was drawn with a different drawing pad.
