Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series) not charging with some chargers

My new Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series) appears to have some issues with some chargers. Specifically, it will not charge with my Anker 747 chargers. I have a few of these chargers and I’ve tested with all of the chargers (in each of the sockets in the chargers and each of the expansion card slots on the laptop) and each time I test, the same thing happens – the charging light beside the expansion card slot on the laptop flashes for a split second, and then turns off and remains off and no charging occurs (the computer does not report charging and will discharge over time).

This sounds similar to AMD Framework USB-C charger compatibility issues; however I think this is not the same issue for a few reasons:

  1. That ticket appears to be for the 7040 series, not the AI 300 series, based on when the ticket was created
  2. I’m assuming that ticket is resolved given no one has said anything in the thread since January
  3. Someone explicitly mentioned the Anker 747 working in that thread

I don’t really have any good ideas for how I can debug this issue. For what it’s worth, I am running linux (NixOS specifically) but I don’t think that’s relevant given the computer won’t charge from those chargers when it’s turned off either.

Any ideas?

Im having the same issue. Im using a slightly older 737 charger that ive had for a while with a pair of anker 100w cables. never had any issues before charging even past 60w on other devices. This laptop is a little over a day old, and i noticed the charging issue an hour into using Fedora for the first time. I dont know what to do, it would seem there arent any bios updates past 3.03 for this mobo.

some people have said it should charge even when fully off, but for me it still charges when it decides it wants to (usually some time after 30 or so minutes)
I can just barely live with this.

so many people with this issue specifically say anker, so I wanted to try other chargers but people say it happens even with the official FW charger too.

I am also having the same issue and I use an Anker Gan charger and am running windows 11. I submitted a ticket and I will respond when and if the problem is resolved and if you guys find anything out please let me know as well. Best of luck.

Thank you for reminding me i replied in this thread. I have an update. i had been browsing a few days ago On the main thread for charging issues
I could not find the message, but I saw EPR and PD 3.1 mentioned as “preffered” by the chipset somewhere. My 737 is neither of those, although it does put out enough power.
I confirmed that the issues went away when testing a few chargers that are rated as EPR, and now i have ordered one which makes 3 chargers tested and confirmed problem free.
If you have a usb c macbook charger, some of those might work.

I am using an Anker 747 Gan charger that I do not belive is PD 3.1 or EPR so I will attempt to use a MacBook charger thank you.

Update: Well apparently my 747 charger should be PD 3.1 as what Anker advertises as PowerIQ4 should be essentially PD 3.1. As for EPR I have no idea. But this is confusing as my issue has started recently although I’ve been using the same charging bricks for weeks now with no issue.
