FRWK16 - AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.9.1 - ISSUES

This is the one that seems like working best for me with 24.10.1
Kingston FURY Impact 64GB (2x32GB) 5600MT/s DDR5 CL40 Laptop Memory Kit of 2 | Lower Power Comsumption | Intel XMP 3.0 | Plug N Play | KF556S40IBK2-64

Same Problem here. 96GB Crucial ram. Bug report submitted to AMD.

Dude the Ram has nothing to do with the Driver not working. I am on the same 64 Gb Kingston Kit ad you and its not working.

I think the thing that would have more impact is what cpu everyone is using and if the drivers are able to work. 24.9.1 did not work with my 7940hs, and I likely wont try 24.10.1 until either framework updates the graphics drivers or it is known stable on the 7940hs. For what its worth I am running the cl40 gskill 64gb kit.

I also have the 7940HS CPU. UPDATE: 24.10.1 still has the same issue. Do not install!

Has there been any acknowledgement of this issue by the Framework team?

Discussion here is about the driver package that you get directly from AMD, bypassing Framework’s supplied drivers. Thusly, Framework would probably just say this is unsupported scenario.

Ultimately the drivers would need to be updated at some point regardless by Framework for their driver pack, unsupported or not the issue would need to be addressed.

New FW 13 AMD here (with 96GB non-FW Crucial RAM); I can confirm that 24.8.1 is the latest Adrenaline driver I can successfully install. Both 24.9.1 and 24.10.1 give black screens and/or different errors (sometimes Error 207, sometimes others).

Updating to newer drivers because with the current FW driver pack (2024-10-02) I have issues with a Dell U2724DE screen that includes a TB4 hub (video playback freezes and different artifacts). Hoping newer drivers will help.

Thanks for this thread, some good information here!

On my Framework 13 AMD, 24.8.1, 24.9.1 and 24.10.1 all installed and worked fine for me for office type applications and video playback, with maybe only relatively minor glitches during install. I have not done any 3D gaming.
Are you guys also updating the chipset drivers with the latest from AMD? I always did.
I’m not necessarily saying I took the right approach, just reporting results.

(Some extra info has been added to this since originally posted)

I woudl love to know what’s different - 24.8 works for me, 24.9 and 24.10 both give me black screens and driver crashes on startup. It’s very annoying as the FW driver has serious issues that I know are fixed in newer versions :frowning:

I am on AMD 13" though, so perhaps the difference.

On my fw16 with dgpu its also just 24.8 working 9 and 10 are broken.

I’m having the same issue with my Framework 16. Tried updating with Frameworks driver bundle and with AMDs bundle, both left me on a black screen and needing to jump to my restore point. Thankfully I made one.

UPDATE!
After i upgraded my Win 11 23H2 to 24H2 i was able to succesfully install 24.10.1
It is up and running.

Nice! I just checked my PC and it says it’s Windows 11 22H2. Do I have to opt in to get the latest updates to be offered 23H2 and 24H2?

Did you have to force an upgrade through a Windows 11 installer, Group Policy/Registry Edit, or other means, or did you get the update offered ‘naturally’ through Windows Update? If through Windows Update, are you in any Insider Program or the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” tick box?

I haven’t had any luck through Windows Update myself, and am debating the media creation tool methods of upgrade if this is the fix. 24.8.1 bugs have been getting more and more frustrating.

i did force the Update through Windows 11 Installer. But did break my install yesterday Evening with installing Atlas OS (My eGPU wasn’t usable anymore)
I did a fresh install of Win 11 24H2 today and installed 24.10.1 again without Trouble in my Fresh install.

The Fw16 can be setup without any need to install the Framework Driverbundle.
I just unzipped the Driverpackage to get the Screen Calibration File and the Fingerprint Reader Installer.
Every other Driver can easily obtained through AMD Adrenalin, AMD Chipset Driver, Realtek HD Audio Driver and the Rest is Windows Installer (except maybe the Wifi Card which i replaced with the Intel Killer 1675x)
