FW16 Waking with lid closed and scratching it's own screen :(

I have had my Laptop 16 since late summer last year and I’ve really enjoyed it, however 2 things I have noticed and was wondering if I’m not the only one. Firstly, the laptop turns on when the lid is closed. It does this in my backpack and tends to get HOT, so I’ve made a habit of turning it fully off before closing the lid. My drivers and BIOS are all up-to-date, and was wondering if anyone has found a fix. Secondly, has anyone else noticed that the edge of the trackpad module digs into the screen slightly where it is raised above the keyboard? It scratched a line into the screen, and it’s visible about half the time. Does anyone know what I could do to remedy this?

Windows has a nasty habit of enabling the wifi card to wake the machine. So in device manager right click on your wifi card entry and in properties look for the power management tab. Make sure that the card is not allowed to wake the computer.

Using hibernation is another solution that preserves your session. WIth the speed of NVME drives the speed of resuming and hibernating is quite acceptable.

Hope those two things help!

Never mind, I went to the “advanced” tab and found that “wake from magic packet” was enabled. Based on my limited research that should help my problem.

Regarding the raised touchpad and scratch, get in contact with the support. The raised touchpad corner is a common issue, unfortunately

Are there actually people that don’t have raised edges? It seems like something that would be very hard do achieve.

Yes, there are. Me, for example. It’s very important that the midplate is seated correctly and the touchpad and spacers are both straight and slotted correctly into the fasteners on the midplate, but then they are designed to and do sit flush with the border of the lower case. I remember having seen reports on faulty modules, though, where the plastic pieces were not glued correctly to the aluminum plates.

I have gotten 2 touchpad replacement parts, both with shifted plastic pieces, so the touchpad would sit a bit to the left, to the point where the left spacer would not slide without too much force. Yes, two!!!

Oh ok, thanks! Is the touchpad supposed to be flush with the keyboard?

In my case, the keys are slightly higher but the keyboard frame sits 0.7mm lower than the surrounding areas.

For at least the last 10 years or so, I’ve gotten cloths such as these to put on top of my laptops keyboard to protect the screen when the lid is closed. I got into the habbit when I had a Macbook and just kept doing it with everything else. So far it’s prevented all my machines from getting keyboard imprints on my laptop screens.

Regardless of what the normal clearance is, when you throw your laptop in a backpack there’s going to be some amount of flex on the screen due to the pressure being put on it by other things in your bag. Especially in the center, the screen will touch the keyboard, regardless of how sturdy the screen is.

For me the Trackpad module is higher than the keyboard.

Excellent advice/point.

You can also use Tyvek, and an easy source of Tyvek is used/new USPS Priority Mail or Express Mail pouches.
