So I got the Framework 16 with a AMD Ryzen 9 processor and running Windows 11 Pro.
Everything’s updated and all including all drivers and firmware.
Most things work except that sometimes when I boot up my laptop, it stays stuck on a black screen and after restarting it, both the GPU and iGPU are disabled.
I have to keep opening device manager to re-enable both GPUs after which things work as intended again.
The integrated graphics sometimes is enabled but displays a warning icon, so I have to disable and re-enable it to make it function as normal again.
So far I am not entirely sure how to fix this or what to do about it.
I already tried clean re-installing AMD drivers and resetting back to factory settings.
The issue persists. It does not prevent me from using my laptop, it’s just horribly inconvenient and time-consuming.
@Maxym.K I’m equally as perplexed with the integration of the iGPU and dGPU in operating systems. I had purchased the 7700S to aid in AI and some light gaming. But I found operating systems a bit underwhelming in utilizing the correct GPU for the task at hand. And the login manager (does windows even have one) was a problem for sure. I was met with a black screen when I configured Manjaro Linux to utilize the 7700s - appears it doesn’t work for login screens - maybe the driver hasn’t been loaded yet? But having something similar happening in Windows provides a serious clue - I’m just not aware of what the clue telling me. Long story short, I’ve only had the 7700s for a few days and I’m going to return it.

After doing a little bit of testing I found out that this issue for some reason does not happen if I start up my laptop with nothing plugged in (power cords, etc not plugged in).
I’m still clueless on why it sometimes boots up with GPUs disabled when it is plugged in though.
Any new findings here? I’ve started having this happen after I replaced the liquid metal on my CPU with the PTM provided by Framework. Likely a coincidence, but I’ve reseated the GPU a few times and it still happens to me sometimes when resuming from hibernation I get a black/corrupted screen, and upon hard reboot the GPU is disabled and iGPU is in safe mode.
The issue kind of resolved itself?
I have absolutely no idea how that ever happened but after a few months or so the issue with my GPUs randomly turning off stopped happening.
At first I just booted up my laptop without anything plugged in (for some reason the GPUs work correctly if it boots up without anything plugged into USB slots).
Fast forward a bunch of months and it seems to no longer do this, I can now boot it up without the GPU being disabled/not working with USB and other things plugged in.
Although, I won’t mark a solution because the problem technically wasn’t solved by doing anything, it kiiiind of just stopped happening but I don’t know why?
