Housemate sat on laptop - screen seems busted - what will need replacing?

Hi everyone, as you can hopefully see in the attached picture, my housemate sat on my Framework 13 laptop and now the right-hand quarter of the screen is black. I’m guessing this means I’ll have to replace the display? (I’m aware of the guide on how to do this) Or is it possible a connector is just loose?
What are my options for screen replacements? Am I best off ordering from the Framework store? Should I consider upgrading to a slightly better/newer display than the one that shipped with the unit? (e.g. one that has better resolution/better energy efficiency or whatever) Is it possible for me to upgrade to a touchscreen display?

And are there any other components that might have been damaged and require replacing that I should inspect carefully? (Right now keyboard, touchpad, camera all seem to be working fine)

System details:

Framework 13 - Intel(R) Core™ Ultra 5 125H (3.60 GHz)
128MB intel graphics card
8GB Ram
238GB Hard drive

I am another user like you.
From the picture, i would say the display panel needs replacing.
Everything else looks ok.

1st thought was the housemate…

but yeah like James3 said looks like just just the screen.. as for getting newer better screen that what came when you bought it.. I guess depends on what you(or the housemate? wait no.. that person was on the replacement list  ) can afford.

and yeah before buying new one.. can’t hurt to unplug the screen and plug it back in just incase it was just that.

and yeah I think ordering from the framework store is the way to go as then its supported and you know its just gonna work.
and i’m pretty sure there is no Touchscreen for FW13

As the others have pointed out the screen for sure needs replacing. No touchscreen is available thankfully. The higher resolution display is a little nicer so why not spend the money before those go up in price too!

It is possible that the top cover may have been bent too. This may be hard to see with the currently damaged screen. It is fairly inexpensive to replace too. Be glad you have a Framework as it would cost much more from some other vendor to replace these parts.

I would recommend the higher resolution Framework LCD screen. Installing that will almost be like having a brand new Framework and you may end up thanking your roommate for sitting on your Framework.

And somewhat tongue in cheek, I would also recommend a much better OS to run on your improved Framework 13, also supported by Framework, such as Fedora KDE, Ubuntu, Bazzite, LMDE, openSUSE Slowroll, MX-Linux, EasyOS, and many, many more of the 447 versions or distros available to choose from. Specially with only 8 Gigabytes of RAM, Linux will run much better than your current OS does in 8 Gigabytes and when you later add more RAM, it will run even faster. And Linux and Linux apps take up much less disk space than the other OS and its apps. You can also play almost all Windows games using the Steam Play store.

You can always run your current OS in a Virtual Machine inside the better OS if you still feel a need for it and in many ways it will run better when running in the VM.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. If I fork out for a higher resolution screen, will it chew through battery life faster?

This article suggests that the higher resolution display will not require much more power than the lower resolution display. If you’re really trying to maximize battery life, turning down the screen brightness will probably have a much greater impact on battery life than using the lower resolution display.

The lower res display might have slightly better color accuracy. Just mentioning it in case it matters to you.
