I take it something during the journey has damaged the screen and I need to buy a replacement?
Possibly. Try re-seating the display cable first before buying anything.
No physical damage as far as you can tell?
To add a little more detail to @dchang’s answer, see the Display Replacement Guide - Framework Guides for instructions on how to do this. You won’t need to do all the steps just to remove and re-seat the cable.
Thanks for the replies. Was a normal commute home - I wonder if something else in my bag pressed awkwardly on laptop at some point. Reseated the display cable but problem still there. If I press the bezel in the areas with the odd lines they skitz out so pretty sure something is damaged.
At least I can just purchase a screen rather than a full laptop. Will also get a hardshell case going forward.
As an aside on this topic, in case anyone from @Framework stumbles upon this post, I love UAG’s (Urban Armor Gear) laptop cases - I used to have one for my Surface Book once upon a time and it saved it numerous times. Perhaps you folks could collaborate with UAG on FW13/16 cases? I’d buy one in a heartbeat!
