I just learned with some excitement about framework and saw a page where manufacturing starts in Taiwan. I had made a strong mental note to get a framework computer when my beloved MacBook Pro gets too long in the tooth. Now I’m hoping framework manufacturing will not become hostage to the machinations of the CCP. Is there anyone in the know who can comment on this? Thanks!

If China blockades or invades Taiwan, then the whole computer industry is screwed. TSMC manufactures the world’s most advanced chips (Apple, AMD, Qualcomm, and others depend on them), but a fair chunk of PC design and manufacturing is there as well. If you’d like to read a bit more about it, here’s an easy to read recent article (that cites TSMC as having 53% of global foundry market share): Taiwan dominates the world’s supply of computer chips – no wonder the US is worried
