Is there still no way to get dedicated home, end, pg up/down keys?

It seems like there’s been a few threads about this, but I want to check if there are any updates. Also, does Framework have any kind of feature request system? I selected the feature request tag, but do Framework people even read these forums?

I’m saddened that with all the insane customization that is possible with Framework, the option to get dedicated home, end, pg up/down keys is not one of them, as far as I can tell. These keys are very important to me, to the point that it’s probably a deal-breaker for me. I don’t understand why they can’t be incorporated in the numpad, or why there can’t be another numpad-like keyboard module created that will add these keys.

If Framework people/designers are reading this, I hope you can put this request into the pipeline. Or, is there any word on this being something that is planned for future models?

On my FW16 2nd Gen, I chose the normal US Keyboard and the normal number pad and it does have those dedicated keys. The Number pad functions exactly like my big Legion 17 inch Laptop.

You make sure the Number Pad function is turned off by toggling the Num Lock key and then you use: Number 2: arrow down, Number 8: arrow up, Number 4: arrow left, Number 6: arrow right, Number 9: Page up, Number: 3: Page down, Number 7: Home, Number 1: End

All without having to use a 2nd key combination.

I am looking for a half width number pad to do the home, end, pgup, pgdown keys.
Maybe the new “one key” keys, will help to achieve that.

Hmm, now that is an idea i like, a single width side module with a column of 6 to 10 keys on.

If they just make a blank one, it can be programmed to do whatever keys you want, and everyone is free to apply stickers as needed.

I have the macropad and one of the pages that I created has dedicated home, end, page up, and page down keys, among others.

The macropad works the same way as @AlfInAussieland described for the numpad. I use it all the time!

If you want a different layout (e.g., more compact), you can remap the key bindings as you desire using ”keyboard.frame.work”.

Ohhh! Wow, I completely missed that!

Perhaps I should’ve specified but I honestly only care about the home/end keys; I hardly ever use page up/down. And I didn’t even notice those tiny arrow symbols on the 7 and 1 keys on the numpad.

Well, this is much better. I’ve never tried such a layout before; I imagine I might get slightly annoyed at having to toggle the numpad, BUT this is still way better than the alternative of having to use the Fn key.

Thank you for explaining!

Interesting! And how do you remember what key is what? The macropad has just blank keys, doesn’t it? In other words, there’s no label on them? I haven’t looked into how this macropad works. Is there a way to visibly label the keys?

Yes, it wasn’t until your query that I actually had a look for the Home and End key and I was a bit miffed of not having them myself. The difference between my Legion Laptop and the FW16 is that my Legion keys actually say Home and End, but they are the same locations and keys.

I’m pretty sure you can program the color of each key to indicate the its functional grouping (or anything else that make sense). I haven’t done that yet, since I’m just enjoying the color cycling  , but it didn’t take me long to memorize the positions, since the pattern makes sense.

If you only use a couple of the keys, you could map them to the bottom row for less finger effort. (I mapped two keys at the bottom to control my monitor input sources, for example.)

You can, but not with the stock firmware that Framework ships them with. A community member made a firmware supporting OpenRGB, that’s what you’d need. Should come up if you search the forum.

If you manually write the code for the qmk you can get per-key colors. I ended up doing that, plus using my laser printer and vinyl cutter to make custom labels. I’ll grab some pictures tonight if I remember.
