I’ve got the same issue now. Sadly, the gen2 keyboard won’t help with that
The 2nd Gen Keyboard retains the same hardware as the 1st Gen but introduces refreshed artwork and updated firmware, which includes a fix to prevent the system from waking while carried in a bag. If you already have a 1st Gen Keyboard, it will be possible to update firmware in the future to access the same functionality.
Ah ok @Per_Magnus_Tveten@ATi , gotcha. I reached out to support and it’s still covered so that’s good news. Yeah it’s definitely interesting to have that issue come up with the d key so often, and since it’s happened with a new keyboard again that probably isn’t random. It might be mechanical and maybe I’ve pressed it too long or too hard? Not too sure I press it harder than other keys though.
Btw, I asked about the warranty on the replacement parts an this is what I got as an answer:
[…] replacement parts provided by Framework are covered under original system warranty or for 90 days from the date of delivery whichever is longer. They do not carry a new separate 2-year warranty.
So I’m going to stick some heat insulation on the new keyboard before making use of it to extend its lifetime…
For now, I used aluminium tape meant for soldering works, as I just had that at hand.
Once I have some time at hand, I’m going to run some tests using my infrared camera to check if that’s good enough.
Tbh, I’m not sure if it really helps, but seeing this thread has made me concerned:
Chiming in to report I also had the same issue with the D key, in August, and I was able to have it replaced under warranty. fw16, blank keys. Guessing some manufacturing defect leaves that particular area of the keyboard sensitive to heat issues and/or fps game usage issues.
My mystery box keyboard has a similar issue with the “S” key. Obviously not something I can expect official support on, since that’s the gamble of the mystery box, but I’d be interested in any solutions the community can find to fix a stuck or unreliable key.
Hmmmm I bought new keyboard but have not put it in yet… as someone mentioned if you let it cool down it works again…..
But for the new keyboard I would like a solution…
Was thinking maybe getting more air flow under the laptop might be worth it…have it more of a vertical position maybe… but then I would not use the inbuilt keyboard anyway.
I’m having the same issue currently. The W key sometimes continues to register as if held down (usually after I lift it after holding it down for a bit), and the D key just isn’t registering sometimes unless I put some real force behind it (experienced the same A key cancelling out the D key glitch on Linux). Contacting Framework for a replacement.
Well that sounds exactly what I need then
soo what do I buy ? looking for aerogel did not seem to get me what I think you used..
I took a look at the other thread you have about this.. and think I know what I need to do now just need the material.
I do wonder if this is something FW guys should look into.. because if its the heat that keeps killing they keyboards and this can stop that it would be better for everone if it was something we could just buy from market place and would come with new laptops. @Destroya
