Laptop 13 somestimes falls asleep if I bump or move it or pick it up

Hi - my Laptop sometimes goes to sleep if I bump it or move it - any idea where I should look?

Have tried prodding certain areas but can’t narrow it down - suspect loose connection, any idea what it might be, before I start dismantling? - ta!

Hi, I had my F13 randomly going to sleep while using it on top of my laps. I found out it was the magnet of my earbuds’ case triggering the sleep sensor.
Check if there is a magnet near the headphone jack on the left.

The magnetic sensor is on the left side near the audio port. It’s pretty easy to trigger, e.g. putting the case of my Sony earbuds near it will put the laptop into standby (as if you closed the screen).

No magnets alas - good to check though as it is behaving as if it’s being turned off…

I had this issue last year, and it ended up being a faulty audio board somehow causing the sensor to short. Replacing the audio board solved the problem for me, but it might be something else shorting that sensor.

Thanks - do you know if it was a ‘mechanical’ issue (loose connection or part maybe) as it’s mechanical movement that causes the problem - thanks

I’m thinking its the sleep sensor - I told the laptop to ignore the power button and screen close and the problem seems to have gone away - fingers crossed

I unfortunately wasn’t able to determine if it was a physical short or some kind of interference from a faulty audio card (and the audio card headphone jack also wasn’t sensing connections).

FW support thought it was a short, but I had tried reseating the card to no effect and replacing it worked, so I didn’t investigate further. A short might’ve also explained the headphone jack behavior.

So my bet in your case would be there’s some kind of physical short between something inside the laptop and the case itself. If my headphone jack hadn’t stopped working, I probably would’ve tried to add electrical tape between the audio card and upper case just to see if that solved the sleep problem, and if so raised that to support to see if there was a more supportable fix.
