I’m using windows 11 pro and 11th gen intel, on the framework 13.
I’ve swapped the expansion cards, restarted the laptop, but the laptop only charges from the left side. Additionally, everytime I turn on the laptop I have to disable and enable the graphics driver before i do anything, if I want to play video without the screen going apeshit. I’ve updated the drivers, redownloaded the bundles and installed them, updated the bios, but the graphics driver keeps breaking everytime I turn on the laptop. These two issues aren’t related but I’ve continuously had bad experiences with this laptop after owning it for a week. I even replaced the coin cell battery which wasn’t too much of a pain but mine had lost half its voltage. Granted, I bought the laptop second hand, but it has really high specs and the seller is highly reputable.
Welcome to the community!
Hopefully the seller informed you that the “coin cell battery” is not like it is on almost every other system. It is a rechargeable battery NOT a standard coin cell. Hence the voltage is always going to fluctuate. Keep the USBC cable plugged in to charge the coin cell for at least 12 hours if the laptop is not starting when the power button is pressed.
The battery is a ML1220. Framework will provide a replacement free of charge if you contact support.
Each side of the Framework Laptop 13 has a controller. If one side is charging and the other one is not it could be a firmware issue, the embedded controller (EC) could be stuck, it could be a hardware issue. Consider contacting Framework support to get the most direct help diagnosing what is going wrong with the laptop.
Optionally to help figure out if it is an issue with Windows; consider making an Ubuntu LTS 24.04? USB drive and boot from it in LIVE mode and see if the issue persists. If it goes away then something is wrong with either Windows or the drivers.
update, none of the expansion cards i use on the right side of the laptop work. anything i put on the right side will not do anything.
pkunk’s suggestions are good ones. You also could try resetting the mainboard, resetting the bios to defaults, and checking for and applying any firmware updates. Hopefully the controller for that side of the board has not died, but it is a possibility, Best of luck.
Thanks for the reply, I did reset the bios to defaults and the right side seems to be working again, for now…
Hey, thanks for the reply and detailed suggestions, i reset the bios to defaults and the right side is working again for now, as for the graphics driver, i will try your suggestions as soon as i find a USB somewhere around the house
