Linux keyboard backlight support

Hi there!

New Framework 16 owner, coming from a Dell XPS.
I consider myself very critical when it comes to my daily (both proffesional and personal) driver - so far the Framework has been nothing than a real pleasure and a step up from the XPS.

This is strongly related to me running Linux: I’m running Fedora 41 (yes, beta) and basically everything ‘just works’, which is very pleasant to witness.

One thing however not: keyboard backlight control from within Gnome. After doing some searching I found the kernel support developed by @DHowett. Great effort, and it almost works

So here’s a question: is there a place or time where Framework gives an update about (in this case specific) Linux upstreaming effort. I mean, the keyboard backlight thingie is not important, but I’m just curious about on-going effort.

Thanks!

Alas! It doesn’t work for the Framework Laptop 16, nor is it likely to. The keyboard is a separate device whose parameters are not controlled by the embedded controller (which my driver and Thomas Weißschuh’s drivers focus on.)

There are likely to be other efforts to surface QMK- and VIA-powered keyboards’ backlights through sysfs.

So basically this needs to be resolved in user space?
