Linux Wifi Disconnects

I bought a framework a little while back and have consistently had trouble with the wifi card. My setup is Manjaro Linux with XMonad as DE. The problem I have is:

1. Bootup, connect to wifi
2. Browser for a while, sometimes minutes, sometimes hours
3. Wifi will be connected, but internet cuts out. Webpages won’t load and simple things like ping google.com also fail on DNS resolution.
4. I checked journalctl --boot since this just happened and don’t see anything relevant
5. To fix, I can manually turn wifi on/off or I run systemctl restart NetworkManager. This usually fixes it, but then the issue will come back at some random time later.

I would love to get to the root of this and fix it, any suggestions on what to look for or just fixes?

Check if this setting will help:

I had same AX200 and AX210 dropped connection issues on desktop and fixed them by disabling the card power management in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf. Dunno what effect this will have on a laptop (I’m still waiting for my Framework), but you can try adding [connection] wifi.powersave=2 to that file and see if it helps. P.S. Thanks! I’ll give that a try, although with iwconfig I see that the power management is already off, so I suspect it might be something else. In any case, I’ll report back when I know if this works or not (the nature of random DCs makes it hard to reproduce on demand…).

Are you using a Wifi6 router at home? If so, try disabling it:

I ended up working around this for now by disabling AX modes for the wifi: cat /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf options iwlwifi disable_11ax=Y Hopefully the driver support improves soon

Is it actual connection failure or only DNS failure?

Next time it happens, do

ping 1.1.1.1

If that falls,

ping

That will tell you more than browser behavior
