Mic not working when I push the lid

Hi,

I have a framework 13, (intel i7 13th generation).
Here is my issue, I think those cables in the picture are damaged. My microphone was not working during a long time, I took the cover off and when “playing” with those cables the microphone was working as long I don’t close the laptop.

So what to do? How can I troubleshoot the issue?
What should I replace ?

Do you have a guide for this part ?

I’m about 75% sure those are the wifi antennas.

The microphone has an optical kill-switch, are you sure you turned that off (it’s also off if you take off the bezel)

You are probably right I took the keyboard cover off.

But how it’s possible?

My microphone switch is on (the red part is not visible)

And yeah I’m sure the microphone was working without the bezel

So the problem is likely not the wires then.

Ok I closed everything but I couldn’t make the microphone work again …

So strange…

If it works with the bezel off but not with it on there could be something wrong with the switch in your bezel.

I only heard of failures in the other direction though (not turning off right)

Where is the optical sensor to test it?

Both are on the webcam board, as you can probably see the switches in the bezel are just plastic and interrupt the light in the sensor or not.

Ok I found the sensor for the camera so i think, I found it for the mic. It’s a little u shapped plastic thing

The sensor works fine, the microphone is working right now but If i move my lid the mic turn off…

Ok some news.

When the lid of my laptop is open at 90 degree, the microphone is working.

If I push the lid to open it more, the microphone stop to work.

If I pull the lid, the microphone works again…

The sensor is working, i tried to insert a piece of cardboard in it, and the microphone stopped working.

You probably need a replacement webcam cable, but I cannot see any in the Marketplace store.
There is a eDP cable in the store, but you don’t need that cable. There are two cables between the mainboard and the display / webcam.

I will do it, thanks.

It could be like as soon as gravity pulls the bezel towards the switch, the switch will kill the microphone. Have you opened the Laptop more than 90° so the mic don’t work, but than turned it in a way that the screen will face the bottom?

No but I don’t have the bezel right now.

So no switch on top

The webcam cable is only available with the top case in the marketplace :no_mouth:

Oh dear, That makes for an expensive cable.
When did you purchase the laptop and in which country?
The reason I am asking is because some countries have 1 year, others have 2 years, and others have 3 year warranty, so you might be covered under that.

In France last year

So, looks like you have 2 years warranty, so ask for the cable to be replaced under warranty.
