Network won't reconnect after sleep / hibernate - fixed

I’m using Ubuntu 24.04 and have been struggling to get it to connect to my wifi after waking up from hibernation. Possibly also after waking up from sleep, I’m not sure.

Anyway, the reason seems to be that I wake it up using my fingerprint. But evidently that doesn’t unlock all passwords (Chrome asks for the keyring password when I start it up) … I’m guessing that includes the network keys because if I unlock using my password instead of fingerprint then the laptop reconnects to the network reasonably quickly.

(In the past I’ve used Windows laptops, then Mac and Chromebook for work … the “unlock using fingerprint” implementation for Linux has got to be the worst (it may be the most secure, idk, but it’s the worst from a consumer expectation point of view). Maybe no-one (other than me) is actually hoping / aiming for Linux to be usable by anyone & everyone in the same way that Windows, Mac & ChromeOS are. #sadface)

Thought I’d put this here in case anyone else hit the same problem.

Now I just need to figure out why the keyboard backlight doesn’t remember its previous setting and instead is off after waking from hibernation.

Well, a finger can be cut off, while they have to beat the password out of you.
So very honestly, I don’t know what really is more secure.
For my part, no biometrics are in use.
