And now the “What DRAM/memory is supported” knowledge base article is up!
I had originally written here that the 2 memory modules I’m considering were in the list, but it looks like the KB article wasn’t final (might have been a copy/paste from the article for another model, and edits were not done yet?). There were a lot more entries than what’s in the current version.
So, while at first I reported that the Kingston FURY Impact 32GB KF556S40IB-32 was in the list, it is not. Instead there’s the slower (in terms of frequency) KF548S38IB-32. That’s 4800 MHz CL38 instead of the 5600 MHz CL40 of the faster module – keeping in mind that the laptop 12 would cap it to 5200 MHz anyway.
Now, I know it doesn’t mean the KF556S40IB-32 will not work, but I think I’ll feel better if I stick to something that has been tested by Framework, even if only with “Limited validation”.
The other memory module I’m considering is the Crucial 48GB 5600 MHz CL46 CT48G56C46S5, and that one is still in the list (capped at 5200 MHz of course - possibly with a slightly lower latency from what I’ve read somewhere).
I’ll order the memory at the last minute anyway, so I’ll keep refreshing that knowledge base page until then, just in case it changes again ![]()
I’m posting this here in the context of “new laptop 12 stuff on the website”, but I’d suggest heading over to this post for Laptop 12 memory choice discussions: Which RAM-modules to use?.
Edit: Rewrote this post after realizing that the knowledge base article I’d seen yesterday was probably work in progress, and the KF556S40IB-32 isn’t listed anymore.
