Windows did an update yesterday and the RGB function of my RGB Keyboard stopped working, not even a backlight.
Hello Mark! Have you tried toggling through the backlight settings of your keyboard ( Hotkeys on the Framework Laptop 16 Keyboard )? Hitting FN+SPACE will toggle between three levels of brightness settings and ‘no backlight whatsoever’ mode.
Eureka! That did it. I thought that it was something that I had done, but I could not figure out what sequence I had hit. I thought that I had tried FN+SPACE to try to fix it. I guess I had not. Thanks for the assist.
Well … i thought that i was in the clear. but now the wh ole keyboard is messed up. Is there a way to reset the board? Right now, I’m having to use half physical and half on screen keyboard.
I’m unaware of a direct ‘reset keyboard firmware’ mechanism, but you might have luck by running the .exe for the latest keyboard firmware that can be found on this page: Keyboard Firmware Update (Framework Laptop 16)
Well, let’s see. The Left Shift through the M Keys does not work at all, except for the N key (which acts like the Alt key), the Right Alt (which acts like the Space Bar or the Scroll Down key), Right Ctrl, and the Left Arrow keys (which act like the Space Bar). The Left Shift and FN keys do not work at all. I think that is all. Oh, the RGB function turns itself on and off by itself.
Fascinating - no idea how or why that’s happening. It almost sounds like there’s some alternate mode that the keyboard got toggled to, but that’s ABSOLUTELY a guess with NO evidence to be found.
I reread that link I sent you and it DOES look like you can perform a factory reset on your keyboard firmware by reloading the firmware! If you scroll to the bottom of that page, you’ll see this:
If Needed Complete the Following Steps:
Erase Firmware and Settings
The modules keep persistent settings. Firmware updates do not erase them.
If you want to factory reset your module please use the UF2 method described above, first with erase_flash.uf2 and then with the matching .uf2 file for your keyboard.
It will take a while because it erases the entire flash, without any optimizations.
After messing with it for 30 minutes, I realized that it really was staring me in the face. I was then finally able to do the factory reset on the keyboard. And so far all is well. Thank you for all of your assistance.
