[RESOLVED] My new AMD FW doesn't power up

Hello,

I recently set up my new framework DIY (AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U).

After installing the RAM and SSD, the screen remains blank. The power button illuminates, but there’s no response. I’ve attempted to troubleshoot by removing the RAM and SSD and trying once more, but to no avail.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. For reference, the RAM model is G.SKILL F5-5600S4040A32GX2-RS, and the SSD is p44 Pro 2TB.

Thank you!

This should apply. Framework just hasn’t duplicated this page for newer models.

Can you see the backlight come on in a dark room? Have you ever seen anything displayed on the internal display? If no to both, reseating the display cable on the mainboard may be worth a try.
By default secure boot is enabled, so any boot medium you try should support that. In case your display is broken but detected, the boot and UEFI messages would “show” there, not on any connected external display. AFAIK Fedora 39 live/installer should be able to boot with default settings.

Hi @Mark_Mayer,

The RAM modules you listed use XMP overclocking profiles that could be incompatible with the Framework Laptop. Please try to disable XMP overclocking if enabled, run at the JEDEC profile speed, and then wait for memory training to complete.

Per the listing on Amazon:

  • XMP profile support to reach up to the rated overclock speed, or run at default JEDEC profile speed
  • Rated XMP frequency & stability depends on MB & CPU capability

It works now. I just had to wait 30 seconds or so to start booting.
