Several keyboard keys getting hard to press

Just looking of a little community opinion here. I have a Framework 13, it’s a couple of years old now and several keys on the left side of the keyboard are getting increasingly hard to press. I feels like the membrane is starting to stiffen up. It could need a good cleaning but perhaps the keys are just getting worn out.

My question, is it worth the trouble to attempt to clean the keys to see if that would fix them or would it be better to simply purchase a new keyboard layout and install it. I hear the new keyboards are designed a little differently from earlier models.

Thank you to all.

I would personally recommend at least trying to clean out your keyboard with an air duster or a plastic tool before buying a new keyboard and trashing the old one, but it is definitely up to you. If you’re willing to pay for the new keyboard, then make sure to be careful removing all the screws since they are notoriously easy to strip, and at the very least consider selling the old keyboard with a disclaimer that it may need a bit of cleaning.

I will note that as far as wearing out the membrane, I have been using the same keyboard I first got with my Batch 2 laptop 13, and while it’s not my only computer, or my most used computer, I have had it a long time and written a lot on the keyboard, and it still functions like it did out of the box.
