Before the BIOS 03.25 update, I was able to cap my battery charge at 95% successfully (which I had because I often leave it on AC overnight… I don’t remember how I did it). Now I’m trying to do it again but the only options are 100% or 80%. Why?

I can’t cap it at the Linux level (it’s set at 95% but it still charges to 100%). I want my laptop to be charged fully to whatever the cap is without compromising the battery. But I don’t want to set it to 80% because that is just too low for my usage since my battery capacity is already at 83% (energy-full at 50.4 Wh when energy-full-design is 60.6 Wh) with only 89 charge cycles (I’ve had this battery since late-2023).

ChatGPT says the only option is to downgrade my BIOS but I’m not keen on doing that. Any recommendations/suggestions are welcome on how to go about fixing this or whether letting it be on AC overnight is such a big deal for the battery’s health.

I’m pretty sure they made “Battery Life Extender” enabled by default in the BIOS. You should be able to turn off “Battery Life Extender” in the BIOS and change “Battery Charge Limit” to 95.

Do I have to disable the “Battery Extender”? Is there’s no way to keep it enabled and change the “Battery Charge Limit” to 95%?

Nevermind, apparently I can do both. I wonder why it was an issue before.

If anyone reading this is interested, here are the things I did to optimize my Ubuntu FW13 setup for the observed high battery drain both idle and asleep. During idle (with Chrome open incl. Google docs open but device left untouched—which is what I consider minimum usage), I do consume ~6 Wh per hour which is the only pitfall at the moment. Otherwise, now that the 95% battery cap is working, I’m pretty content with this setup considering I’ve had this laptop for 5 years now. This 11th Gen motherboard still runs fully updated in silico programs remarkably well.
