[SOLVED] Appropriate Steam setup for my configuration

Which Linux distro are you using? Ubuntu

Which release version? 24.04

Which kernel are you using? Linux 6.8.0-52-generic

Which BIOS version are you using? Vendor: INSYDE Corp. Version: 03.05

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

Hi all, I’m working to get Steam set up for my Framework 16 laptop, using Step 11 of the Ubuntu 24.04 Guide as a reference.

However, I have a couple questions:

  • I do not have the graphics module expansion bay, do I still want to configure for discrete graphics?
  • Assuming “yes”, then the next question is:
I have both a primary and secondary NVMe installed in the laptop, but only the primary is used with Ubuntu (where I’d like to set up Steam). The other is used for dual-booting Windows. Should I follow the one or two NVMe instructions?

Thanks - any help is appreciated!

No.
Discrete graphics is separate / non-integrated GPU, which would be graphics module expansion bay. So Step 11 does not apply to you.

Regarding your second question: Use the guide for 1 NVME.
The guide for 2 NVMEs is only useful if you want to install the games on the second NVME. As you already use that NVME for Windows, you probably dont want to install the linux steam games on it.

Thank you both @MJ1 and @Numerfolt! That clears things up for me.
