[SOLVED] HDMI in Framework 16 not working!

Hi everyone,

I tried to watch Casino Royal on TV with Framework 16 with the AMD Ryzen 9 on windows 11 and it did not work!

I tried to move the HDMI port to different slots that can handle it, but it did not work as well.

I tried switching to new cables, different HDMI inputs in the TV, checking if my Switch worked (It did), reinstalling the drivers and BIOS, and Changing to HDMI to USB-C, and nothing worked!!!

Has anyone else had this problem and is willing to help me?

Thank you for reading,

SS

Welcome to the forum!

Can you check if device manager detects your TV? Open device manager in Windows and if it refreshes once you plug in your TV, that likely means it has been detected. Otherwise, try going into the Monitors section and seeing if your TV is shown there. It may be a driver issue.

You can also try going into the display settings and clicking Detect to see if Windows detects any displays. This way is the simpler option.

Hello, thank you for responding!

The device manager does update once I plug the TV in, but the multiple devices section in Setting → System → Display says “We didn’t find another display.”

I have tried to reload the drivers given by framework, but it gives the same problems after finishing the reload.

Go to the Monitors section in Display Manager then right click on the TV display and click update drivers. If there is no update drivers button, try going into the properties section, go to the driver menu, and click update drivers.

If this still does not work, please take a screenshot and post it here as well as provide a model number for your TV.

Hello,

In the monitor section of the Device Manager it only has Generic Monitor, is there a way for me to add TV display into that?

If there are two Displays then just select the second one (that is not Internal Display or Framework 16 Display). If there is a white arrow pointing down that means the device is disabled so that would likely be the TV screen. Otherwise I believe it should be the Generic Monitor.

There is only Generic Monitor in the monitor section in the device manager, I tried to Plug the HDMI into the Computer and scan for hardware changes, but nothing showed up. When I click Generic Monitor is shows “This device is working properly.” and nothing else, I tried to update it but it also says I have the optimal driver.

Sorry this is so much a hassle :{

If you have another USB C to HDMI adapter that is not from Framework, please try that. I have seen posts where the official adapter just doesn’t work (though that was with a drawing tablet), so you can try using another third party adapter.

Also if you can post some screenshots or provide the model number of your TV that would be very helpful.

It seems like you might be suffering from flaky monitor support. Framework’s external monitor support can really be a hit or miss.

I tried connecting my computer with HDMI to usb-c (usbc to the computer) using the expansion card and without, a HDMI to HDMI to the computer. My model number for my tv is very elusive, but what I could find is this:

DI : 43CHVWLL2P2PG PD : 10/20/2014 SN : 02AG3CCF401826F FW : T-GFP9AKUC-1420.0 MI : T-GOLAUSS1-1012,T-GOLAUSS2-1012 MN : UN65HU9000 MA : 50:56:BF:E6:62:2A LS : US VS : 001420.230204 FC : SWU-OU_T-GFP9AKUC_001420_230204

This TV is very old, (up to 8 years old), but I did try to connect it with a newer TV directly -since the older tv only connects with HDMI second gen- and it still has the same problem. Another Important note is that since I do not have second gen HDMI, only 3rd gen, I have to plug it into a Yamaha RX A700.

The model number for the one I connected to directly is: QN32Q60AAFXZA

Could you take a picture of your current setup? And by USB to HDMI do you mean you used an adapter that wasn’t the Framework adapter or have you only been using the Framework branded Expansion card as the HDMI to USB C interface? The HDMI to USB C card may be the issue so if you haven’t tried it then please try using another HDMI adapter that is not Framework branded.

I will try to do some research on your TV when I have some free time.

Hi, so what I did is connect my laptop into that Yamaha, and that would connect me to the TV

Yeah I would recommend seeing if you have any non Framework branded HDMI to USB C adapters and trying those out. If it doesn’t show up in device manager there really isn’t a good way to know what went wrong.

You’ve said that you tried the HDMI adapter in different ports, but which ports did you try?

Thanks for pointing that out. I totally forgot about it.

You will need to plug the HDMI port into the top row or second row of ports in order for it to display an image. The bottom row of ports do not have any display connectivity supported.

1, 2 , and 4. All 3 of these

Today I rebooted Microsoft and reinstalled the drives and bios. It is now fixed. I think when we have this problem -for anyone else who has this problem, at least for the framework 16 with Ryzen 9- Rebooting EVERYTHING seems to fix it.

Thanks for the help, it helped me get on the right track!!!
