I just got my brand-new DIY Frame.work Laptop 13 pro. X7. I brought my own 32Gb of LPCAMM2 Ram, managed to pick up a 32Gb stick right when they announced the memory issues (I got bumped to 16) Anyway, It’s ddr5 7500 Micron Crucial. Brand new in box from a local reputable computer store.
So unboxed and built the frame.work today following the quick-start guide. Computer seems to be completely DOA. I see flashing red lights when I take the keyboard off while plugged into an AC adapter, an orange then white charge light when I just plug in the AC adapter, but that is the only sign of life.
When I press or hold on the power button, I get no response or any indication from the computer that I have done anything.
I have tried:
2 different power adapters including a high-end macbook 140W adapter.
Make sure all the components are properly connected EXCEPT the ram and the nvme ssd. Leave them out for now.
Be really careful with the ribbon cables etc. Make sure they’re in properly but don’t force it.
With the laptop fully assembled without the ram and and ssd - plug in the power supply - turn it on and see what blink codes you get.
Not sure if it will boot to bios but if it does then go into the BIOS and check all is okay aside from ram and ssd.
Now power down and disconnect from charger. Wait 10 minutes. Put in just the ram, put it all back together, plug back in power supply, boot up. Look at blink codes. See if it boots to bios. Etc.
If the above works Repeat again putting the ssd in. Check what happens. Remember the ssd doesn’t have an os on it but it should still boot to bios. (Maybe).
If it does then you need to create an os install with a bootable usb drive to install the OS.
There was a ribbon cable on the keyboard that wasn’t fully installed. I realized it felt like the computer was just doing… nothing so decided to re-review all the ribbon cables. I had already checked the mainboard, but decided to look at the keyboard too since input didn’t feel like it was working. I had to pull the ribbon cable up to loosen the adhesive and then advance the adhesive a bit to get it fully in the connector.
