[Solved] Top and middle Left Ports died

Linux Mint 22.2 Kernel 6.14 newest 4.02 BIOS AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series:

I noticed last night that my top and middle ports on the left of my laptop started to not work like they wouldn’t charge, but I reset it, and it started to work again, now no matter how many times I reboot I cannot get them to do any data transfer or charging. I tried to charge them directly using the power adapter in the bare USB-C ports with no expansion cards, and they didn’t respond, they also didn’t communicate with any of my peripherals. Likewise, I’m currently at work and have to go to school later so I cannot do anything until after 8 PM MST. For when I can do anything, what should I do? Right side middle and top works flawlessly even with 3rd party USB 4 cable and included Framework charging cable either side and flipped either way on the connector.

I even did a system timeshift to before the issues began and had no change

You can try resetting the EC, there are two ways to do this:

  1. Go into BIOS and hit the “Battery Disconnect” button, unplug the laptop from power, then save and close BIOS. Wait ~5 seconds, then plug power and turn back on.
  2. Shut down laptop. Unplug from power. Wait 120 seconds. Plug in and turn back on.

I’m relatively confident that will get your ports working again. I recommend #1 as it’s faster.

I did #1 and it worked! I will continue to monitor until I am sure that everything is 100% fixed. I’ll let support know that it worked. Thank you so very much!

Np, glad it worked! In my experience, this is only ever needed after over-current protection kicks in (which shuts off the ports), which only seems to happen to me when I unplug the laptop during a heavy workload.
