Speakers won't work. Driver issue?

I can get audio to work on a bluetooth device, but I cannot get the speakers to play. I have reinstalled drivers and tried every other help topic tip. Oddly enough, I had a company Dell computer that had this same issue, but reinstalling drivers fixed it. Is there a known issue with Windows / Intel / Realtek? I may just buy some new ones and swap them, but this is strange that I’ve had two completely different laptops get this issue in the last few months.

Hi, welcome to the community!

I assume this is on Windows. I’ve had Windows updates break various aspects of audio before. You could try re-installing drivers.

Do the speakers show up as an output source and you can adjust the volume and all that, but just get no sound? Or do the speakers just not show up as an audio output option?

Thanks for the welcome and the reaponse.

I have tried reinstalling drivers (multiple times). I can see the speakers and adjust the volume, but no sound.

I have heard other complaints that Windows updates appear to be causing the issues, so a permanent fix may not be possible.

I will inspect the hardware next to rule that out.

Try booting up a Live Linux distro from a USB flash drive. It won’t touch your Windows installation on your internal drive, it just runs in RAM. Linux is an excellent test of hardware. If your speakers work when running Linux, it would clearly be a Windows problem. If your speakers don’t work with Linux, you may well have a hardware problem. Try using Fedora with KDE, LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition), or MX-Linux with KDE. You can find the instructions for downloading the respective ISOs and installing them on an 8 Gigabyte or larger USB flash drive on their websites.
