Stylus Updates?

And yet again, the lack of communication is the most frustrating thing about being a Framework Fangirl.

As a Framework Fanboy, I second this.

I have several times tried to find info / reach them on socials about this, as I am waiting for the stylus to order the laptop altogether (great fan of their work, a 2D/3D artist, interested in the upgraded screen/processing but happy to support them right away with this product if I can get to casually sketch outside)

Please framework team say something about the styluses, even if it is to say that there won’t be availability until end of the year or smth. It’s better to know than to be checking every couple of days what’s up.

They don’t like communicating until the last minute or it’s too late and everyone is already frustrated.

I get this, but I’m sure they also want their fans to be able to get to their products and keep spreading the word. It puzzles me how they would prefer ignoring a basic update on the styluses so many are waiting for and risk plenty of interest ending up in users going for something else.

I’ll be patient though, luckily I’m not in any urgent need. But ahhhh, all the times I have been checking other small convertible laptops around and been almost persuaded to just wait until next release just because I have no idea when is this stylus thing happening…

I think the problem is that they’re engineers running the PR on top of everything else. This isn’t their strong suit, and they haven’t recognized the need for someone whose job is to talk to us, the customers.

They do have a listing in their careers for a social media manager, so hopefully they’ll improve sooner rather than later. That being said, 3 days left in a self-set deadline and not a single update seems like a massive oversight on their part.

I hope they get there and communication becomes casual and, why not, also interesting. Like imagine being able to discuss needs and wishes for screen upgrades, or possibilities for creative repurposing projects.

I totally think there is a need for social media management, but also it would be great for engineers to read people’s comments every now and then. I get that one thing is basic information exchange between plans and users, and a different thing is actually involving users potentially not only among themselves but also with people at the company (which I think spaces like these forums do btw)

yeah, it’s getting a bit ridiculous with there only being two business days left in Q3. i bought a metapen 2 (unfortunately i could only find one on amazon ) because it was only $30 and it was important to me to test the drawing functionality before the return window on the laptop closed. its fine for now, but i have a couple issues with it that preclude me from wanting to use it as my main stylus so it would be nice to have a timeline so i can make an informed decision about whether i can wait out the framework stylus, or need to spring for a nicer third-party stylus. (plus i need a couple more expansion cards at some point and i’d prefer to combine the shipping if possible!)

just to be really clear in case anyone at framework is reading this - i totally have sympathy for the fact that sometimes it takes longer than planned to get something working properly. especially in hardware, where i’m sure it’s a lot more expensive to correct a mistake compared to software (my field). i am willing to wait for something to be done right! but communication is really important. its not realistic for the engineers themselves to have the bandwidth for this, but the product managers (or someone similar - i’ve always been in b2b with a few large clients instead of a large number of individual clients, so i realize the structure could be a bit different) need to be liaising between the engineers and the customers and setting expectations.

I don’t believe I read anything about the US tariffs, and how this effects their budget and inventory on parts needed for manufacturing. When I was receiving the shipment about to ship notifications one of the emails made reference to honoring the sale price at preorder but may have to increase prices due to the costs they are taking on due to the tariffs.

Budget hits like this can derail timelines, and with tariffs starting and stopping I can only imagine Framework is just as in the dark as we are.

Definitely, but communication should not falter because of this situations, I would say then it becomes even more important.

I totally agree with this, and get that the basic thing to do is extending the patience and sympathy for the (most probable) madness that it must be to deal with things like tariffs/supply chain on top of the complications of making good hardware.

That said, poking around this page and adding answers and likes is probably the best chance we have at them noticing

That’s exactly why I made the post. I wish there was a better way, like Framework having a website and possibly a blog… :eyes:

They’re still selling the laptop in batches (batch 12 is shipping in October). So, they’re focused on that + the desktop computer + the laptop 13 and 16. It’s a lot of important products, so maybe the stylus is not with top priority at the moment. You still have an option to buy one from another brand and resell it if you decide later that the Framework’s is better.

Again, I’m not looking for you to provide alternatives. I’m not here to accuse them of not having their priorities straight with which product to sell when. I’m asking that someone take 5 minutes to tell people if they’re going to have a stylus for sale by this Tuesday or not.

So, given the fact that it is only one day left of Q3 and that there is no apparent updates from Framework team about stylus availability, I think my best approach is going to

  1. Wait until end of the week and confirm that no communication is happening, therefore most probably availability will not even be Q4 (I am imagining that if they were preparing to make them available any day now, they would probably have said something about it)
  2. Get the laptop regardless, and start checking configuration, installation, and so on, without stylus. Hopefully stylus won’t be the issue when the device has been made specifically for this.
  3. Once styluses become available I’ll order and spend ~10 usd paying for delivery to get it (thought somehow that this was going to be much more expensive)

I am not at all interested in other styluses unless they are offering the same specs (also USI 2.0 doesn’t have that many devices) and then again, I prefer giving the money to Framework, so for me it seems it’s gonna be drawing in my regular screen for the time being.

Wish us all patience <3

Oh that’s hilarious. I happened to be looking at the FW12 parts page and noticed that I could add it to my cart now. Already ordered one in Lavender to match my laptop.

Is the Sage stylus already sold out?
Or has it not been set to “in stock” yet?

Wow, yeah I guess it’s out of stock already. I ordered one in sage right before I posted this.

I see everything except Sage still in-stock.
It might be sold out, or not yet available in your region? FW has a few distribution warehouses.
