The power LED only quickly flashes when a power cable is inserted and then turns off again

I bought a Framework 13 AMD7040 and put it together. Basically my problem is that I cannot install an operating system because the laptop always turns off after a few seconds. The power LED quickly lights up when I insert a power cable but then immediately turns off and stays that way. The color is either white for 2 seconds, then orange then off, or just orange for a second.

What I’ve tried:

  • use different power cables and adapters. It’s the same with all of them.
  • press the power button for a ~20s
  • remove and re-insert the USB-C expansion card

What I haven’t tried yet:

  • removing the battery and leaving it out for 1h. This was recommended somewhere.

Now, although this laptop is new and I haven’t used it yet, this problem actually is: When I first assembled it, I connected it to the power cable and the LED lighted up and stayed such. Even today I tried different combinations of re-inserting the power cable and pressing the power button and in the beginning the power LED stayed on as long as the cable was in. Also weird: pressing the power button once does nothing, I have to press it a second time for anything to happen.
It seems to me like the laptop simply is out of battery but I don’t understand why it doesn’t keep charging if it recognizes the cables at insertion.

Opening a ticket with support would be the best avenue right now if you have not gotten it to work.

Somwtimes the batteries are totally flat and they have a finicky time charging. Try a charger that is between 30w-60w. A 15w charger might work too it would just be much slower to charge. Support should be able to help troubleshoot what is going on with what you are describing. Let us know how it turns out.
