Sudden Death, no Charging LED

Framework 12th gen
Windows 10/ Manjaro Linux, 2 Partitions

Hi there community,

I’m currently traveling Asia from Europe. Have my Framework since 2 years and am actually happy with it.

I was working with it here in Asia with my power brick as usually. It was also charging without a problem.
The other day I worked a bit longer and Windows went i to powersaving mode. For dinner I closed the PC, charged it overnight without checking the LED. The next day it didnt start.

Ever since:

No charging LED working, no response from the power button.

My power brick charges without a problem my phone.
I removed the battery (also without battery and plugged in connection no LED. Removed the RAM. Removed the BIOS battery. Removed all USBC-attachments.

Nothing seems to even give me response on the LED light.

There was NO external influence on the laptop. I thought the reason might have been a slightly lower voltage here in asia, however it was charging fine earlier on, before the said day.

Does anyone have an idea?

PS: the tags didnt allow me to tag framwork-12, so I tagged 13

Are you looking into the forum because you’re having potential issues with your Framework laptop? Before creating a post, we may have a guide, FAQ, or thread that can hopefully help!

In the body of your post, please include those following details.

  • Which OS (Operating System)?
  • Which release of your OS (Operating System / Windows 10, 11)? (if you are having a Linux related issue, please create your thread under the Linux subcategory)
  • Which Framework laptop (11th, 12th or 13th generation Framework laptop, Chromebook or Framework Laptop 16) are you asking for support with?
  • If there is no information pertaining to your issue or question, please let us know here: Framework | Support Framework | Fix Consumer Electronics

This seems somewhat odd and unfortunately I do not know the cause.

It may be possible that you still have warranty (due to EU regulations), but chances are you do not. I would recommend you get in touch with support as soon as possible as even if you are out of warranty, they can still provide assistance.

Try unplugging the battery and power cable. Leave for 5 minutes, then plug the power in and see if the power button works and power on the unit.
FYI. The unit will not boot or enter the BIOS without any RAM installed. So you need to install at least one chip.

I tried this already, unfortunately without success.
Even a mainboard reset ( Fully Resetting the Mainboard State - Framework Guides ) did not show a sign of life.

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps here

It would be useful to get a video of the flashing leds

Thank you for the tip. Didnt try this before, but did it now. The jump start with a different USB-A to C on the right side and the actual brick on the left side sounded very promising as the problem causing it sounded very much like what probanly happened to mine. However it did not work. No flashing of the charging LED at all.

EDIT:

I now also tried a combination of the mainboard reset and the jump-start with both cables. Also no reaction from the power LEDs. Having the feeling there is a problem with the mainboard itself.
