Three keys sometimes stops working (P, [ and -)

Three keys on my fw13 7040 stops working randomly, all at once, those are: P, [ and -. It requires me to press them multiple times and them they start working back correctly for some time.
Is there anything I can do with it other than keyboard replacement?

Next time they act up, check 0 (zero), /, F12, and ;. See community.frame.work/t/solved-framework13-keyboard-has-intermittent-keys/33279/43 for details. It could just be your cable.

As it is still happening, i haven’t tested F12 but 0, p and ; are broken for few seconds, then everything works fine for hours and happens again.

So my only hope is a support ticket?

It could be accidental damage to just the ribbon cable, which is available separately. See the link I posted for what you could look for.

I have had this happen numerous times. It’s always the “p” “-” and “[“ keys. and when it doesn’t work, it doesn’t feel like hardware, then randomly it will start working again. All three keys will then resume their function. I’ll take a look at the link provided, but it “feels” like software because the behavior is so polarized. It either works perfectly and for hours or it doesn’t work at all no matter how hard I hit those three keys.

Go to support and request replacement keyboard kit, solved issue for me.

I experienced this problem with “p” and “-” (I do most programming with a separate keyboard so I didn’t notice “[“), and I think it was a hardware issue because I had to press “p” quite hard to get it to start working “normally” again (for half a day or so).

I guess I could have complained to support and gone back and forth, but this laptop is a bit over 2 years old, so I just bought a new keyboard for $40 plus shipping. This is probably the most laborious part to replace due to ~ 60 tiny screws, but the result is great, seems maybe a bit snappier than my old keyboard? Anyway, for it’s various faults, this is the one big advantage of Framework IMHO: parts and guides are so easily available.

just want to weigh in here and say that I’m experiencing this as well. only P and surrounding keys. For me it’s the p, -, and 0 keys (p, minus, and zero)

Both my and my wife’s computers are having the same issue. The P 0 and - keys stop functioning intermittently. I thought it was debris on my wife’s machine so I cleaned the keys, but my computer has the same issue with the same keys. Also AMD 13 laptops.

Had the same issue with an employee’s computer. I assumed it was a cable issue, but i replaced the entire keyboard.

My keyboard is doing the same thing, seeing the others with the exact same issue, I think it’s a problem with the build quality. I suppose I’ll have to replace it, but who knows how long the replacement will last?

Saw the same issue on my Framework Laptop 13, AMD 7040. Started with the p key working intermittently, then after attempting recommended troubleshooting to clean and re-seat the input cover cable, it spread to the p, 0, - keys. Holding down the keys for a while or hard pressing seems to intermittently fix the issue. Issue persists in BIOS too suggesting some kind of hardware or materials failure.

Unfortunately, laptop is over a year old so the only option from customer service is to replace the input cover.
